Efrem Zverkov is a distinguished master of landscape painting. His creative work has opened new ways in the development of Russian art of the second half of the 20th century. The legacy of the artist who created his own direction of the national landscape has passed through the decades, maintained value and art independence among many art directions and trends of these days. He is a holder of many state, national, professional, public awards including the international prize “For Significant Contribution to World Art” (China), etc.

Zverkov has belonged to the generation of the 1960-s. Many of them went through the horrors of the Great Patriotic War and brought

their experiences of the war years to the art. These masters of the “thaw” period were actively involved in  literature, cinema and fine arts. Efrem Zverkov graduated fr om V. Surikov Moscow State Art Institute wh ere he was much influenced by such eminent artists, as Boris Ioganson, Igor Grabar, Sergey Gerasimov, Nickolai Krymov, Arkady Plastov.

The exhibition at the Russian Academy of Arts presents Efrem Zverkov as a master of sketches from nature. For many years the artist has been working in his native land of Tver, in Pereslavl-Zalessky, near Moscow, in the North of Russia. It is the painting in the open air that contributed to his deep comprehension of Russian nature.

His half century public activity has played a significant role in the art life of the second half of the 20th century. In 2006, the artist initiated a Competition in Landscape Painting, that was supported by N.G. Sirotina, a remarkable artist and Director of A.G. Venetsianov Tver Art College. The Competition became annual and revealed many young talents. On display at the Russian Academy of Arts are works by the laureates of 2015 Competition in Landscape Painting named after Efrem Zverkov. The distinguished master did much for the development of high moral potential of new generations and continuation of great traditions of Russian fine arts.
