Solo Show of the People’s Artist of Russia Dmitry Sandzhiev at the Russian Academy of Arts

Organized to mark the 65th anniversary of the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Dmitry Sandzhiev the solo show features a major retrospective of the artist’s works. Dmitry Sandzhiev is one of the leading Russian graphic artists and painters.

He distinguished himself soon after the graduation of V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute in 1981, when six sheets from his diploma work “Shepherd’s Widow” were obtained by the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow) and the other three became a part of the collection of the famous “Faber Castell” company (Germany) that awarded him a special prize.

The artist’s universal talent which revealed itself in various spheres of graphic art – from major theme cycles to book illustrations was equally realized in painting. In 2008 Dmitry Sandzhiev was awarded the gold medal and diploma of the Russian Academy of Arts.

He has been an active participant in more than 170 exhibitions in Russia and other countries, was a member and head of  juries of major international competitions such as the 2nd Moscow Art Festival “Traditions and Contemporaneity”, the 1st International Art Salon “The Way of Unity”, the 1st International Festival of Graphic Art “Vita-Art-Time 2013” in Volgograd.

Dmitry Sandzhiev’s  polyptych “Cracked Time” commemorating an anniversary of the tragedy in New York on September 11, 2001 has been presented as a gift by the Russian delegation of parliament members to the US Congress. It was highly appreciated by the Speaker of the US House of Representatives John Dennis Hastert and became part of the exposition of the US Congress.

In 2009 the artist presented his 35 works as a gift to the city of Kemerovo and received a medal “For the Faith and Good” awarded by the Governor of Kemerovo Region for his efficient charitable and public activity. In the permanent exposition of the Central Chess Palace and City Chess  (Kalmykia), as well as  the Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Kalmykia there are his four paintings and more than 20 graphic works – also donations by the master.  In 2009 Dmitry Sandzhiev was awarded a medal “Together Forever” in honor of the 400th anniversary of incorporation of Kalmykia into the Russian State.

The master’s works are in collections of major museums in Russia, USA, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Norway and other countries, as well as in private collections.
