Exhibition of Works by Fidail Ibraghimov at the Russian Academy of Arts

Organized to mark the 75th anniversary of the Honored Artist of Russia, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Fidail Ibraghimov, the exhibition presents a major retrospective of almost 100 works including the artist’s compositions of glass, watercolors, gouaches, drawings and ex- libris produced in the 1960-s – 2013.

A recognized master of decorative art, Fidail Ibraghimov works in art glass. His easel pieces delicate in mood and often original in plasticity and color are distinguished by the filigree technique and expressiveness of images. The artist also successfully works in the monumental plastic art. His decorative and spatial light compositions, sculptures, stained glasses and chandeliers adorn public buildings in many cities: Moscow, Vladimir, Norilsk, Sevastopol, Delhi (India) and others.

After his graduation from S. Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Arts and Industry in 1966, Ibraghimov worked as an artist for “Gus-Khrustalny” glass factory. His Minotaur sculpture became a kind of a banner for the new trend in decorative art. The artist created not only exhibition objects, but also designed compositions to “live” in the interior and beautify the everyday life. His famous art glass works such as the Festive service were produced by the above glass factory in millions of copies.

His original style has been formed by the organic mixture of classical traditions and innovative searches. Fidail Ibraghimov is a master of practically all art glass techniques and in his works proves multi-sided possibilities of this material.

In recent years the artist has been actively experimenting with various techniques and materials combining the incompatible - fragile glass and metal. The decoration of art glass sculptures with engraving, which obtains in them an independent artistic significance, intensifies the expressiveness of his images.

On display at the Russian Academy of Arts are also the master’s graphic sheets including portraits of his friends and relatives made with strokes that are full of life and delicate humor depicting not only the portrait likeness but also the character of the person portrayed. A different intonation can be sensed in a series of his drawings devoted to his philosophical reflections on a man’s destiny and the world’s existance.

For many years Fidail Ibraghimov has taught at S. Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Arts and Industry sharing his invaluable professional experience with future young artists.

The original work of Fidail Ibraghimov is known in many countries. He is a frequent participant in Russian and international exhibitions and symposiums. His work is in collections of the State Hermitage, State History Museum, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, museums and art galleries in many Russian cities, as well as museums in the United States, Denmark, Spain, Norway, private collections in Russian and other countries.
