Jubilee Exhibition of the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Alexey Shmarinov at the Russian Academy of Arts

Organized by the Russian Academy of Arts to mark the 80th anniversary of Alexey Shmarinov, the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, Laureate of I. Repin State Prize of the Russian Federation, the solo show features the artist’s works of various years. A representative of a noted family of artists, Alexey Shmarinov is a distinguished master of graphic art and book illustration.

Alexey Shmarinov is internationally recognized. He is a Corresponding Member of the Austrian Association of Austrian Artists, Corresponding Member of the International Press Club of Munich. He has been honored with many Russian and international awards, including a prestigious Peter Ludwig Prize, Silver Medal of the Bavarian Prime-Minister Franz Josef Strauss, the Golden Laurel Prize of the Kunstlerhaus Association of Austrian Artists. His works are in collections of major Russian museums such as the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, A. Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, as well as in museum and private collections in Germany, France, the United States, Austria, Japan, Italy, Norway.

The major retrospective presents the artist’s monumental engravings from the cycle “Heroes of the Russian Nation of the 13th-15th Century”, his xylographs for “Stories of Russian Chronicles and War Legends of the 14th-16th Century”, “Heroic Russia”, his early works and canvases emphasizing his multi-sided talent. The highlights of the display are the master’s brilliant watercolors resulted from his numerous trips to the most remote districts of Russia – Kamchatka, Chukotka and the Arctic. Of major interest are sheets from the artist’s well-known watercolor series “Russia – My Love”.
