Solo Show of the People’s Artist of Russia Igor Pchelnikov at the Russian Academy of Arts

The Russian Academy of Arts presents a solo show of paintings and graphic art by the People’s Artist of Russia, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Igor Pchelnikov.

Igor Pchelnikov (born in 1931) is one of the distinguished masters of painting and monumental art. In 1956 he graduated from Vera Mukhina Higher School of Art and Design (in Leningrad, now – St. Petersburg). He started his career as a member of the group of young artists in the 1960s with creating paintings, reliefs, mosaics for the Palace of Pioneers in Lenin Hills in Moscow.

In the 1970-s – 1980-s he produced such works as color reliefs for the USSR Embassy in Paris, interior design for the South Foros health resort, 3D composition for a restaurant in the Moscow hotel (in partnership with I. Lavrova) and others. One of his recent works is a wonderful fountain near the Rizhsky railway station in Moscow (in partnership with Maria Krasilnikova). In the 1980s, he created a series of paintings on the Biblical topic full of dramatic effects, earnest empathy and passions of the modern world.

On show in the exhibition halls of the Russian Academy of Arts are also the artist’s graphic works of various years.
