Optical Glass: Exhibition of Works by the Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Fokin at the Russian Academy of Arts

The Russian Academy of Arts presents a solo show of Alexander Fokin, the recognized master of art glass, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts.

Alexander Fokin finished the Penza Art College and in 1983-1987 studied at A. Stieglitz St. Petersburg State Art and Industry Academy (former Vera Mukhina Leningrad Higher School of Art and Design). His interest in the engraving resulted from his work with the recognized masters of art glass such as F.S. Kovalev, A.M. Burmatkin as well as with A. Ivanov who became his teacher and guru.

Alexander Fokin is associated by specialists in art glass with the revival of the traditional genre of one of the most refined and elaborate types of art that flourished in the Western Europe in the 17th - 18th century. His works are in collections of major Russian museums as well as in private collections in Russia and other countries.

On show at the Russian Academy of Arts are over 30 works of engraved art glass produced by Alexander Fokin in various years including portraits and landscapes, art glasses on the Biblical topic.
