Solo Show of the Honored Artist of Russia Evgeny Romashko at the Russian Academy of Arts

Organized to mark the 50th anniversary of the Honored Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Evgeny Romashko, the exhibition at the Russian Academy of Arts features 90 canvases and graphic works produced by the artist in recent years.

Evgeny Romashko was born in Zaporozhye in 1962. In 1985 he graduated from S. Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Industrial and Applied Arts. His creative work continues the traditions of the Russian realist landscape painting.

The artist’s lyric and delicate in color landscapes of the middle region of Russia contain his personal reflections on life. They convey most sensitively the nature in various seasons of the year and transitional states, the changing of its colors in different lights. The old Russian architecture organically included into the countryside has become an integral part of its calm beauty full of dignity and harmony.

Of major interest are his “travel landscapes” resulted from the artist’s extensive traveling across Russia and many other countries. He perfectly feels the peculiarity of their national architecture and monuments of culture. His Paris is the hazy embankments of the Seine, narrow streets of the old city, cozy street cafes. The nature of Sardinia is bright colors and dazzling sunlight. Honfleur, so much beloved by French impressionists, in his paintings radiates an unforgettable enchantment. Each landscape is depicted through a special manner, color and composition.

Moscow, that has become his native city, is portrayed by Evgeny Romashko in all the diversity of its history and architecture: old mansions, “Stalin high-rises”, views of the Moscow Kremlin, boulevards, squares and streets creating the city’s unique image.

The artist successfully combines his creative work with his teaching activity. He teaches in V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute and Moscow State Regional Teachers’ Training University. Since 2009 he has been heading the Chair for Academic Painting at S. Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Industrial and Applied Arts.

Evgeny Romashko is a Vice-President of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia and curator of major art projects in Moscow and various regions of Russia. His works are in collections of many Russian and foreign art museums, as well as in private collections.

The presentation of the solo show and an album devoted to the 50th anniversary of the artist will take place at the Russian Academy of Arts, 21 Prechistenka street, Moscow on February 1, 2011 at 5pm.
