Spain. Selected Symbols. Stones of Jerusalem: Solo Show of Paintings by the Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Mayorov in the Russian Academy of Arts

On display in the Russian Academy of Arts are over 70 paintings by the Honored Artist of Russia, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Alexander Mayorov created by the artist for the last five years under the impression of his trips to Spain and Jerusalem.

Alexander Mayorov, born in 1958, is one of the noted painters of the city of Tula. His way to art was not easy: Mayorov decided to become an artist shortly after his graduation from the Tula Polytechnical Institute. He started working as a designer, later took interest in the cinema and was a production designer for the Angel’s Day film (Lenfilm, 1988).

However, it is the painting, that has become his main passion and occupation. Among his favorite themes are various strata of European and Russian culture interpreted by the artist in a poetic and associative manner.

Since 1992 Alexander Mayorov has been a Member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia (International Federation of Artists IFA). For the last 20 years his works have been exhibited in many group and solo shows in Russia and other countries. His works are in collections of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, A. Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, V. Vysotsky State Center-Museum “V. Vysotsky House in Taganka”, A. Radischev Saratov Museum of Arts, in art galleries of Tula, Kaluga, Nizhni-Novgorod; in Leo Tolstoy Museum-Estate “Yasnaya Polyana”; “Polenovo” Museum-Preserve; Leo Tolstoy Museum in Bulgaria, as well as in private collections in Russia, Europe, the United States, Canada, Israel.

Since 2002, the Doctor of Arts Alexander Mayorov has been a Professor Leo Tolstoy Tula State Teachers’ Training University.
