Exhibition of Semi-Finalists of the “Man and Space” Competition in Honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Flight of the First Spaceman Yury Gagarin

Organized by the Russian Academy of Arts under the auspices of V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute and I. Repin St. Petersburg State Academy Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, the Competition is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the flight of the first spaceman Yury Gagarin. The exhibition in 15 Lavrushinsky Lane, Moscow presents paintings, drawings, sculptures, works of applied art by semi-finalists of the Competition.

The Chairman of the Competition Jury: Zurab Tsereteli, President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation. The Deputy Chairman and curator of the Competition: Lev Shepelev, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation. Members of the Jury: Elena Gagarina, daughter of the first spaceman Yury Gagarin, Director of the Kremlin Museums, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts; Russian spacemen; academicians and art historians of the Russian Academy of Arts.

More than 250 participants have presented their works for the Competition aimed at the promotion of scientific, engineering and cultural achievements of this country; support of gifted young people; advancement of the role of fine arts in the patriotic, moral and aesthetic upbringing of young generations in Russia.
