Not a Square – Other Reality: Exhibition and Publishing Project in Tsereteli Art Gallery

The Russian Academy of Arts, Artists’ Union of Russia, DAVIDGROUP Studio present an exhibition and publishing project “Not a Square – Other Reality”. The opening of the exhibition and presentation of the book will take place in Tsereteli Art Gallery on March 4, 2011 at 6 pm.

The exhibition and publishing project “Not a Square – Other Reality” finalizes the 17-year activity of DAVIDGROUP Studio and concludes a serious of its exhibitions “The Classics of Expressive Abstractionism of the Second Half of the 20th – Early 21st Century” held in Na Solyanke Gallery and “A3” Gallery in Moscow; Sergiev-Posad State Museum, State Picture Gallery in Magnitogorsk, Museum of Nonconformism in St. Petersburg.

The creative entity DAVIDGROUP has inherited and develops the traditions of the “second avante-garde” (the art trend in the culture life of Moscow in the 1970s). In 1976 in the Moscow City Committee of Graphic Artists there was set up a section of painting that united non-formal artists who exhibited their works in the halls in Malaya Gruzinskaya street. One of the most distinguished groups created by Igor Snegur was entitled “20” (or Twenty Moscow Artists). Under this influence in 1993 the artist David Ru created an informal creative unity “Studio-13” and later “Vernisage 1+20” Gallery-Club of artists-abstractionists, successor of which is DAVIDGROUP studio.

Since 1993 David Ru has not changed the direction of his activity. He unites a group of like-minded persons who are true to their stylistic adherence to “expressive abstract symbolism”. David Ru keeps up the traditions of the Russian school of abstract art, diligently promotes the work of the DAVIDGROUP artists in Russia and other countries.

Participants of the Project: Vladislav Zubarev, Vyacheslav Shmagin, Irina Sidorina, David Ru, Rud Arutin, Vitaly Kopachev, Yuri Izosimov, Yuri Mironov, Igor Snegur, Lilia Balasanova, Sergey Kolevatykh, Elena Starkova, Alexander Semenov, Boris Ionaitis, Andrei Volkov, Khachatur.
