Efrem Zverkov and Students of A.G. Venetsianov Art College - Winners of Painting Competitions: Exhibition in Honor of the 90th Anniversary of the Master
The Russian Academy of Arts presents an exhibition of works by the People’s Artist of the USSR, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, Laureate of State Prizes of the Russian Federation Efrem Zverkov and students of A. G. Venetsianov Tver Art College - winners of painting competitions 2006-2011.
On February 1, 2011 in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts, 21 Prechistenka street, Moscow there will be a jubilee session in honor of the 90th anniversary of the artist.
Efrem Ivanovich Zverkov is an eminent painter who created his individual, deeply lyrical trend of the national landscape. The master’s creative work belongs to the most distinguished and poetic pages of modern art culture. From his remarkable teachers – noted artists V. Tsyplakov, A. Gritsai and A. Plastov, who was also the artist’s close friend, Efrem Zverkov has adopted a broad and free thinking, the feeling of justice and at the same time a positive and sensitive vision of the world.
The artist was among those who in the 1960s were pioneers in home art, changed aesthetic principles and the system of artistic values. Paintings by Efrem Zverkov have become a classic of Russian art. They are in collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian State Museum and over 50 museums in Russia, as well as in private collections in many countries.
Efrem Zverkov has been actively involved in the rebirth of the wall painting in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and his contribution was appreciated by the Moscow Patriarchate with the Order of St. Sergius of Radonezh.
Efrem Zverkov is a Vice-President, Member of the Presidium, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, a holder of the Order of Patriotic War 2nd grade, For Services to Motherland, Order of Saints Kirill and Methodius 1st rank, laureate of the international prize “For Contribution to World Art”, Member of eight international Academies.
An Honorary Citizen of the Tver Region, Efrem Zverkov has never broken his ties with his home land. Due to his charitable activity, in A.G. Venetsianov Tver Art College annually is held a painting competition which winners are awarded Efrem Zverkov Prize. The competition is aimed at glorifying the beauty of the nature of Central Russia in the traditions of realistic painting. The motto of the competition is words of Nickolai Berdyaev: “Spiritually Lives Russia”. Many winners continue their education in art institutions of Moscow and St. Petersburg.
