The Academy Museum in St. Petersburg Presents Paintings by the People’s Artist of Russia Valery Lednev

On show in the Rafael Hall of the Research Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts are paintings by Valery Lednev, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, Member of the Artists’ Union of Russia, Honored Art Worker of Russia, Professor.

Valery Lednev was born in the Kostroma region in 1940. He studied in the Kostroma Art College in 1955-1961. In 1968 he graduated from I. Repin St. Petersburg State Academy Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture where he majored in painting. For his diploma work “The Russian Winter Festivity” he was granted a trip to Italy.

Valery Lednev recreated the plafond painting by Stefano Torelli “The Commander Resting and Listening to the Call of Muses” and panels in the Green Dining Room of the Catherine Palace in Tsarskoye Selo (1971-1978), painted six icons for the tsar doors of the Church of Vladimir Icon of Our Lady (1993). His latest works are dedicated to Alexander Pushkin.

From 1968 till 2002 Valery Lednev participated in over 200 exhibitions in Russia and other countries including his more than 20 solo shows in Bulgaria (Veliko-Tarnovo, 1969), Great Britain (London, 1990), Japan (Tokyo, 1991), Germany (Braunschweig, 1993), France (Paris - 1994, 1995, 1997; Calais – 1997; Bordeaux – 1998; Biarritz - 1998; Arras – 1999, 2002; Boulogne - 2001; Lille - 2001), Finland (Turku - 1995; Helsinki – 1995, 1996, 2002), Italy (Cavour - 1995; Turin – 1996); South Korea (Seoul, 1996), Belgium (Derdemond, 1998); China (Dalian, 2000).

Valery Lednev’s works are in museum and private collections both in Russia and many other countries.
