Dialogue of Cultures in the Space of Academic School: Exhibition in the Moscow Academy Art Lyceum

Organized by the Russian Academy of Arts in partnership with the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation the exhibition brings together over 100 paintings, graphic and sculptural works by artists from the republics of the North Caucasus created for the last two decades.

The display highlights main trends in the contemporary art of the Caucasus. Many of the exhibitors have graduated from Russian art institutions and contributed to the development of art education in their homeland. The show reveals the sources of the artists’ inspiration such as the nature of the Caucasus, original folk customs and traditions. In their colorful landscapes, portraits, genre paintings, still lifes, drawings and sculptures the artists depict what would seem to be everyday subjects, at the same time, their works contain a generalized image of life full of diverse emotional experiences. The exhibition explores the artistic and cultural riches of this multinational region and is a rare opportunity to trace the searches of the Caucasian artists for a national style in fine arts.
