Paintings by Irina Savitskaya at the Russian Academy of Arts

The exhibition presents fifty paintings by Irina Savitskaya who continues the traditions of her grandfather Konstantin Savitsky (1844-1905) - artist of the Society for Traveling Art Exhibitions and his son George K. Savitsky (1887-1949), Academician of the USSR Academy of Arts. The Art College and Regional Art Gallery in Penza, which director he was, have been named after Konstantin Savitsky.

 

Irina Savitskaya was born in Moscow in 1920.  She graduated from V. Surikov State Academy Art Institute in 1952 where she studied under noted artists Dmitry  Mochalky, Vera Favorskaya and Ivan Chekmazov. Her favorite artist was Valentin Serov.

 

Since 1953 Irina Savitskaya has been a frequent exhibitor in art shows.  Since 1958  for over 25 years she has taught in V. Serov Art School located in Prechistenka street. 

 

Irina Savitskaya is best known for her landscapes and still lifes. The solo show presents her landscapes of the Russian countryside and the Crimean nature, seascapes, townscapes, works conveying most sensitively the transitional states in nature. In her still lifes depicting her passionate interest in things of everyday life one can see the artist’s adherence to the realist traditions that is linked with new plastic discoveries.
