Iulian Rukavishnikov: Evolution and Metamorphoses

The State Tretyakov Gallery presents a major retrospective of almost 50 works by the People’s Artist of the USSR Iulian Rukavishnikov (1922-2000) who is one of the most distinguished sculptors of the second half of the 20th century.

 

Iulian Rukavishnikov has created many monuments in Russia and other countries, works of monumental and decorative sculpture, a vast gallery of portraits. The sculptor worked in diverse techniques and materials, including bronze, marble, optic glass. In the 1980s, he took an interest in an absolutely new for him theme connected with the microcosm and called it “Evolution in Animate Nature”. He turned his studies of nature into intricate polychromic compositions comprising diverse materials.

 

The retrospective includes the sculptor’s works from the collection of the Gallery and his family holdings.
