Paintings by Peter Fomin (1919-1996) and Nikita Fomin in the Exhibition Halls of the Russian Academy of Arts

To mark the 90th  birth anniversary of the Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Peter Fomin (1919-1996), the Russian Academy of Arts presents a retrospective of his works, as well as a show of paintings by Nikita Fomin, the Honored Artist of the Russian Federation and teacher of I. Repin St. Petersburg State Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.

Peter Fomin is one of the most distinguished Russian painters of the 20th century, a representative of the lyric direction in the national landscape. He has tried his hand at diverse genres including historical painting, portrait and still life, but devoted himself to painting the life and countryside of his native land. His pure, tranquil, heartfelt paintings, full of air, light and poetry, greatly influenced painters of the next generation.

Peter Fomin was actively involved in exhibition activity. A graduate of I. Repin St. Petersburg State Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, he taught at this Institute for many years and raised a whole galaxy of young artists.

His son Nikita Fomin continues the traditions of the Russian landscape. His works have a clear architectonics, complex color scheme, active emotional expression.  Being in constant searches, Nikita Fomin strives to show his peculiar perception of the surrounding environment. No matter where the artists creates his works – in St. Petersburg, Paris, Pskov, Venice or Rome, he remains  a St. Petersburg painter in the sense of high professional skills and deep understanding of the painting culture of his predecessors.

The show includes works from the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, Artists’ Union of Russia and the family holdings.
