Vulcania – Radici e Alchimie: Solo Show of Works by the Italian Artist Melchiorre Napolitano in Tsereteli Art Gallery

Organized by the Sicily Region of Italy, the Province of Palermo, the Italian Institute of Culture and the Russian Academy of Arts, the exhibition Vulcania – Radici e Alchimie (Roots of Alchemy) showcases a selection of works of the Italian artist Melchiorre Napolitano.

Melchiorre Napolitano was born in Palermo in 1949. In Palermo he received his art education and diploma of an architect. Since 1973 Napolitano has been teaching painting at the State Art Lyceum of Palermo. Since 1966 the artist has been actively involved in the exhibition activity in Italy and other countries.  He has traveled much across the world from Switzerland  to Yugoslavia, from Turkey to Korea, from Argentina to Brazil.

As the artist puts it, in Vulcania he has found an ideal realm that he dreamt of.  This is “a discovery of the desired civilization, real or unreal, that has left only sparse tracks, inscriptions, marks…” – says Napolitano. Viewers will be not indifferent to the artist’s apparitions,  cosmic interpretation of the world, deformed or not generated yet, just born out of the initial chaos. The characteristic features of Melchiorre Napolitano’s works are sacred letters, philosophical conclusions and exciting tension. The cycle Roots is distinguished by the dynamics of crossing and interwoven elements, which either rise above one another, or merge. Irrespective of the dimensions the artist’s works have inner monumental forms. In his pictures there are a lot of naturalistic elements composed in such a way that the reality is revealed in the form of pictorial allusions, we see the world full of unsolved mysteries. His style is original and easily recognizable.
