The Second Dialogue: Exhibition Within the Framework of the 3rd Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art

Tsereteli Art Gallery presents The Second Dialogue exhibition to be held within the framework of the 3rd Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art.  Organized by the Russian Academy of Arts, Artists’ Union of Russia under the auspices of the Foundation for Humanitarian Cooperation of CIS Countries and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the show includes works by artists from Russia, CIS countries, the United States and South Korea.

The Second Dialogue project is aimed at starting a wide dialogue on problems concerning basic principles and universal values of art.  It has been conceived as a forum of professional artists which is not alien to the collision of views and positions.  Its goal is to provide the public with an opportunity to get acquainted with a number of easel works executed in various media, where one can clearly see not so much a postmodern play with images, as the tendency towards the definition and solution of formal tasks for the sake of pure art. The most important criterion in the selection of works for the display has been the modernity of works, their ability to meet different challenges of modern culture.  In this task statement, the organizers have revealed themselves as ardent followers of ideas of the early 20th century European avant-garde, which in complicated conditions between two world wars, tried to find universal forms of artistic communication that could unite cultures and not separate them.

The geographical horizon of the project results from the fact, that it is a Russian initiative and Russian culture, due to its historical past, has traditions of searching for mutual understanding among the former socialist countries, as well as the project is considered as a stage of gradually expanding experiment that will involve representatives of other cultures.  It sets no political tasks and invites all those who want to present their original ideas.
