Nikolai Shumakov has been projecting subway stations and other transport objects for many years. Being a Chief Architect of one of the most important architectural companies in Russia, he determines the strategy of subway architecture development and is a designer of a lot of underground stations both in Moscow and other cities. Among his major works are Moscow subway stations “Krasnogvardeiskaya”,  “Konkovo”, Teply Stan”,  “Yasenevo”, Bittsevsky Park”,  “Savelovskaya”, Krylatckoye”, “Krestyanskaya Zastava”,  “Sretensky Boulevard”, “Victory Park”; elevated stations of Butovskaya line, the first line of light rail metro in Moscow. He has been involved in the reconstruction of  “Mayakovskaya” and “Sparrow Hills”  underground stations.  Shumakov has also headed the design and construction of the Moscow monorail transport system, the first in Moscow cable bridge having an observation platform with a restaurant in the shape of a flying saucer suspended from an arched tower, the first subway line in the city of Omsk.  Now Nikolai Shumakov is projecting Moscow airport complexes such as Sheremetievo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Western river terminal in Moscow and other objects.

He devotes his spare time to painting, portraits and landscapes are his favorite genres. As the author put it himself,  it is interesting for him not to illustrate the surrounding reality, but to  transform it for better comprehension. The swift tempo of tone transition in the artist’s laconic paintings is akin to the diversity of his tunnel designs in the architecture of his stations. His canvases are in museum and private collections.

Viewers can also see photographs and video material about Shumakov’s recent projects, as well as a film about the artist’s activity.
