These posters painted with the use of purely  pictorial techniques and distinguished by their originality, dynamic and expressive art language have been a significant step in the development of Soviet art.

Of special interest are the artist’s theatrical posters. In this field Oleg Savostyuk has revealed himself as an artist of perfect taste. His playbills for  performances “Hussar Ballade”, “Swan Lake”, “Ivan the Terrible”, “War and Peace”,  “Nutcracker”,  “Seagull”, the “Golden Century” ballet by Dmitry Shostakovich in the Bolshoi Theatre show his deep penetration into the music, drama and time of the performance. Prolific was his long collaboration with Yuri Grigorovich, a celebrated choreographer of the Bolshoi Theatre.

The exhibition highlights Savostyuk’s paintings resulted from his trips to Karelia and Finland, where he taught in the Academy of Arts in Helsinki. For many years the source of his inspiration has been the nature of the Moscow area. In his canvases one can feel the decorativeness of folk art expressed in buoyant colors and dynamic forms which are the hallmarks of his style.

For many years Oleg Savostyuk has been teaching at V. Surikov Moscow State Art Institute and a whole galaxy of  young artists came out of his school.
