Show of Works by Dagestan Artist Hadzhi-Murad Alikhanov in Tsereteli Art Gallery

Hadzhi Murad Alikhanov has won international acclaim after the display of his works in Russia and other countries. The main theme of his creative work, as the artist put it, is “first and foremost color”. Creating his compositions, he imagines a color which is the main medium of artistic expressiveness of his images.

In 1968 Alikhanov graduated from Dagestan Art College, where he took a great interest in Eisenstein’s researches of color.  He moved to Leningrad and enrolled at Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinema.  The study in this city provided him with an opportunity to visit the State Hermitage, libraries, lectures and rehearsals of Tovstonogov at the Big Drama Theatre. As a grant holder of the Union of USSR Artists, Alikhanov worked in the Houses of Creative Work in the Crimea and near Moscow, that were meccas for artists from all the republics of the Soviet Union.  The artist’s distinctive talent was appreciated by many connoisseurs and fans of art.
