The Russian Academy of Arts presents an exhibition of works by the People’s Artist of Russia, Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Illaryon Golitsin (1928-2007) dated for his 80th birth anniversary.

The prominent master of painting and graphic art, Illaryon Golitsin has been a successor to the best traditions of his teacher -  celebrated painter Vladimir Favorski. He started out in the 1950s  from  producing linoleum engraving, then through drawings  he came to vigorous painting and colorful watercolors.

The display includes paintings and drawings of the 1960s – 2006 from collections of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, International Confederation of Artists’ Unions, the master’s private collection.

The creative work of Illaryon Golitsin is filled with historical associations and dynamic times linking. In his Red Room series the artist portrays members of his family against the background of old family portraits of the Golitsins, noted representatives of the Russian nobility.  Among them of major interest are portraits of his mother from the well-known in the Russian history Sheremetiev family and  his   father, a seaman, inventor and artist who perished in the years of purges. The comparison of the past with the future is the key motif of the creative work of the master who belonged to the pleiad of artists that constituted the smart set of the Russian fine arts of the second half of the 20th century.
